    To grandmother's house we go

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I find myself wanting to write a Thanksgiving blog. It may be more about memory-making than traveling, but hopefully my readers won’t mind too much…

Part of the Thanksgiving holiday often involves traveling. Traveling to see loved ones, often grandparents, as was the case with my childhood Thanksgivings. We would all pile in the car and head to Gramma’s, where we’d spend the day playing with 20 other cousins that we didn’t see too often during the year.

These days we spend Thanksgiving at my sister Mina’s house in Bellaire. Not much of a drive coming from Katy, but the end result is the same… Tons of family spending the day together talking, laughing, eating, watching football. And my daughter spends the day playing with a bunch of cousins!

The sense of smell is the strongest memory-recall sense. Every Thanksgiving, when I smell turkey and stuffing, I smile at the childhood memories that come to mind. As you get ready to celebrate this holiday, whether traveling 2000 miles or 2 miles, I hope you have a wonderful day with your loved ones. And remember what you’re thankful for...

I’m thankful to be so blessed to have so many people to love in my life. And as much as I love a good road trip, I’m thankful that although I have family in New York, Illinois, Florida, and North Carolina, that I only see once a year or so; I still have 45+ family members right here in Katy, Sugar Land, Bellaire, and Houston. And this crazy motley crew gets together for every holiday on the calendar. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

This is great! It reminded me of the wonderful times I had growing up in and around a big family. The holidays were wonderful. Any excuse to get together was acceptable - and always so much fun.

My family is loud and boisterous, while my spouse's family is comparitively quiet and peaceful. It's really funny to see the difference, but it explains a lot! lol ;)
