Snuggle up on the red sofa in front of a flickering faux fire and enjoy what this one-of-a-kind Katy bookstore has to offer: New and used books in the kind of homey and personal atmosphere that’s hard to find these days.

Located in the Villagio shopping center at 22764 Westheimer Parkway in Cinco Ranch, across from the Katy Family YMCA, The Bookworm Shop stocks bestsellers, children’s books, book lover gifts and accessories, plus the latest from Katy and other school district reading lists.

The shop is decorated with antiques, comfortable chairs and lots of nooks for literary lingering. Coffee and a snack are usually available, and the Villagio’s charming fountain courtyard is out the back door.

A plus for voracious readers with limited shelf space: The shop gives one quarter store credit for gently used hardback, paperback and books on CD. If the book was originally cover priced at $20, for example, you’ll get $5 in store credit, which you can put towards half the price of other used volumes.

The store hosts six different book clubs, which meet after hours in the fireplace parlor, as well as book readings for “young and old alike.” Shop owner Sandi Petty, a retired teacher and reading specialist, also offers tutoring in reading.
