As of January 1st, you can file for your homestead exemption if you purchased a principal residence in 2009. It's easy to do and will save you money on your property taxes starting in 2010. File with the appraisal district in which your residence is located. For Katy residents, you either live in Harris (www.hcad.org), Fort Bend (www.fbcad.org) or Waller County (tel: 979-921-0061).
