Katy incumbents Hank Schmidt, Carol Adams and Larry Gore have all filed for re-election in the May 8 Katy City Council elections. Candidates have until 5 p.m. March 8 to file as a candidate for the city races.
Mayor pro tem Schmidt’s at-large position, Adams’s Ward A position and Gore’s Ward B position are up for re-election to two-year terms. It would be a second term for Adams, 51, who is executive director of the Katy Heritage Society, and Gore, 49, who has an outfitting business.
Schmidt, a former mayor, has been involved in Katy politics for several years. He owns a funeral home.
Katy city government is led by an elected five-member council, plus a mayor who votes only in the case of a tie. According to the city code, a councilmember must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years old, and a qualified voter residing within the City for at least 12 months prior to the election. Candidates for Ward positions much reside in the Ward for which they seek election.
