Cinco Ranch junior Jason Ting brought home the only gold medal for Katy ISD at the Class 5A Swimming & Diving State Championships last week at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center.
Ting held off Bellaire’s Diego Suarez by one hundredth of a second in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning in 55.99 seconds.
Taylor’s Cooper Robinson was the only other medalist. He took silver in the 100 backstroke with a 49.00. Cy Creek’s Jonathan Edwards won the gold medal with a 48.95.
The Lady Cougars’ 200 freestyle relay checked in fifth at 1:37.14 and Seven Lakes’ Lindsey Keahey finished seventh in the girls 1-meter diving competition with 383.05 points to round out the area’s top finishes.
The Lady Spartans had the top girls team finish, coming in 10th with 74 points. The Lady Cougars (46) were 14th.
The Cinco boys were 10th in the team standings with 63 points. Taylor (41) was 20th.
