It’s that time again – time for the Houston Area Women’s Center’s “Race Against Violence,” a 5K run, walk and kids’ K that benefits domestic violence prevention and awareness efforts in the Houston area.
This year, Verizon Wireless, a fervent supporter of domestic violence awareness and prevention, will hold a HopeLine phone drive to collect no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to aid victims of domestic violence during the 22nd Annual race. Verizon's HopeLine program recycles or refurbishes no-longer-used wireless phones (from any carrier) and donates the proceeds or products to domestic abuse organizations and shelters in the Houston area.
On March 6, Verizon will collect phones and accessories as more than 2,000 survivors, family members and community supporters take the streets to end domestic and sexual violence in Houston.
In 2009, Verizon Wireless collected more than 1 million phones via the HopeLine program. These phones provide survivors the lifelines they need to establish safe housing, employment and a better life for themselves and their children.
