Public school districts in Fort Bend County, which include Katy ISD, account for more than 14,000 jobs in the county, according to a story on CNN Money.com.
While this may be only a portion of the complete financial picture for the area it is still good news to know that Fort Bend County is No. 5 on a list of 25 counties in the nation the magazine says have experienced the most job growth in the last nine years.
Last year, Fort Bend was ranked No. 6 and the job growth in Fort Bend for 2000-2009 was 55.7 percent.
The job growth in Fort Bend is replicated at the state level, according to the article. Five of the Top 10 cities on the list are in Texas.
A recent CNBC study of America’s Top States for Business put Texas at No. 1 and also stated that the state achieved the highest point total in the history of the study.
The Texas economy is the 15th largest in the world. The Lone Star State is home to 64 Fortune 500 companies, more than any other state, in a wide variety of industries.
With a proposed preliminary budget of $561.9 million, Katy ISD is the biggest employer in the area with about 8300 employees including 4,732 teachers and 3,537 non-teachers, according to school district officials.
What would the Katy area be like without Katy ISD? What other factors contribute to a stable financial picture for the area? What do you think is lacking?

This is nothing but another scare tactic for the weak minded....
..."Vote for the bond or we'll lose jobs in FT, Bend!"
I guess Ft. Bend growth is dependent on KISD's Bond request?
...I used to respect your work, but lately you've been going way out of your way in order to prop KISD up for this bond. why don't you just apply for a PR position at KISD?
This is starting to be a joke
btw; nice scare tactic....i'm sure it will work on the simple minded
I also find it funny all of sudden we need to be verified ....
....in order to get our comments posted. Now you can share our email address with KISD LOL
larry are you serious?
First - it was not my decision to require emails. In fact, I was very much against it because I knew it would prevent some people from commenting.
Secondly, you know the Chronicle isn't providing KISD with emails from its readers.
I thought this was an blog on the econonmy. I guess CNN Money is in cahoots with KISD too.

So please tell me why would you need to add this excerpt about the KISD bond ("With a proposed preliminary budget of $561.9 million, Katy ISD is the biggest employer in the area with about 8300 employees including 4,732 teachers and 3,537 non-teachers, according to school district officials.") to your blog RE; the CNN Money story?
I meant to type KISD's proposed budget not Bond excerpt.

Katy ISD
Larry, Katy ISD is my beat for the Chronicle so I focus on what is happening here. We have a sister blog for Fort Bend and separate writers who cover that school dist. Have you checked it out. The bond is the biggest news in Katy ISD right now and it is directly related to district finances - so I do feel that it was appropriate. This is not a pro-Katy ISD story and I have never said that I support the bond package just that I respect the committee for all the sacrifices they made to develope the proposal. I hope you will come out the board meeting and listen to the discussion even if you dont feel comfortable in signing up to speak.
Adding the number of employees, however, is very relevant to the story itsel.
Thanks for your comments Larry -- Have a good weekend.
