The Westside Senior Education Center is 90 percent complete, but won’t be open to the public until the New Year. The single-story building will feature three computer classrooms, three multi-function classrooms, an assembly room, kitchen, lounge area, astronomy/science room, auditorium and parking for 75.

In the city of Katy, overall taxable values decreased by 3.01 percent.

The projected Katy Independent School District taxable value for 2010 is down 2.36 percent from 2009. When it comes to residential taxable value, however, numbers are up a little. In 2009, the average taxable value of a residential property in KISD was $137,361. This year, it’s $137,609.

“Katy is one of the strong areas of the county,” said Harris County's assistant chief appraiser Guy Griscom.
