    webwombat.comwebwombat.comCongress has passed new legislation that will extend the deadline to close on a home beyond June 30 and still receive the $8,000 first time homebuyer credit or the $6,500 existing homebuyer tax credit. The new deadline to close is September 30.

    But this only applies to purchases already under contract on or before April 30.

    The average rate for a 30 year fixed loan sank to 4.69% this week according to Freddie Mac. Rates are at the lowest point since Freddie Mac began keeping records in 1971. Mortgage rates are actually at their lowest point since the 1950s.

    The volume, or number of single family homes sold, went up 19.1 percent in May 2010 compared to May 2009. This large jump in economic activity can be attributed, at least in part, to the homebuyer tax credit.
