College Softball: Holly Holl, Baylor

Holly Holl went 1 for 3 in Baylor's 5-1 victory at Georgia on Saturday. Holl is a 2010 graduate of Katy High School.

Holl played at Katy High School in 2006-2010, where she was named to the Houston Chronicle's 2009 All-Greater Houston Area first-team. She was also a three-time first-team All-District selection (2007, 2008, 2009). In 2008 she was named to the first-team All-District 18-5A, while also helping her team to a record of 35-9 and the 5A state title game. Holl was named to the Houston Chronicle's All-Greater Houston Area first-team and third-team, TXSWA and the 2009 Collin Street Bakery 5A third-team All-State. Pro Baseball: Eugene Macalalag Espineli, Fresno Grizzlies

Eugene Macalalag Espineli played in the Fresno Grizzlies's 8-7 loss at the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Saturday. Espineli graduated from Katy Taylor High School.

Espineli is a 2001 graduate of Taylor High School before going on to play college baseball at both the University of Texas and Texas Christian University. As a freshman (2002) Espineli played on the Longhorns team that won the College World Series. He went 5-0 on the season with a 2.08 ERA in 17 appearances (four starts.) Espineli struck out 39 in 52 innings. During his sophomore season (2003) at Texas Espineli went 2-1 with a 5.19 ERA in 17 games eight of which were starts while throwing only 34.2 innings on the season. He transferred to TCU for his junior campaign (2004) and went 9-5 with a 4.63 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 20 appearances 16 starts for the Horned Frogs. Following his junior season Espineli was drafted in the 14th round (430th overall) of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants. Espineli was born Sept. 8 1982 in Houston. Cater William Jurica went 0 for 3 with one RBI and was walked once in the San Jose Giants's 8-2 loss at the Bakersfield Blaze on Saturday. Jurica graduated from Katy High School.

Jurica is a 2007 graduate of Katy High School. He went on to play college baseball at Kansas State for three seasons (2008 to 2010) posting a career average of .333 with 20 home runs and 131 RBIs. As a junior, 2010, Jurica was named a Big XII Conference all-star left fielder after batting .363 with 13 homers and 69 RBIs. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the third round (105th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Jurica played 62 games during 2010 with the Giants Low Single-A affiliate, Salem-Kaiser, of the Northwest League. He batted .216 with three home runs and 31 RBIs. Pro Baseball: Jonathan M. Meloan, Midland RockHounds

Jonathan M. Meloan pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs Saturday in the Midland RockHounds's 14-9 loss to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Meloan graduated from Katy Taylor High School.

Meloan is a 2002 graduate of Taylor High School. He pitched three seasons (2003 to 2005) at the University of Arizona going 24-4 with two saves for the Wildcats in his career. Meloan made 57 appearances (32 starts) during his time in Arizona compiling a career ERA of 4.14. He recorded 247 strikeouts in 248 innings. As a sophomore (2004) Meloan went 10-0 with a 4.66 ERA and he followed that up with a 10-3 campaign with a 3.70 ERA as a senior (2005) when he struck out 130. Meloan was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. He was born July 11 1984 in Houston. Read more...
