Jurica is a 2007 graduate of Katy High School. He went on to play college baseball at Kansas State for three seasons (2008 to 2010) posting a career average of .333 with 20 home runs and 131 RBIs. As a junior, 2010, Jurica was named a Big XII Conference all-star left fielder after batting .363 with 13 homers and 69 RBIs. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the third round (105th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Jurica played 62 games during 2010 with the Giants Low Single-A affiliate, Salem-Kaiser, of the Northwest League. He batted .216 with three home runs and 31 RBIs. Jonathan M. Meloan pitched one inning, striking out four and allowing no earned runs Wednesday in the Midland RockHounds's 7-6 loss at the Tulsa Drillers. Meloan graduated from Katy Taylor High School.

Meloan is a 2002 graduate of Taylor High School. He pitched three seasons (2003 to 2005) at the University of Arizona going 24-4 with two saves for the Wildcats in his career. Meloan made 57 appearances (32 starts) during his time in Arizona compiling a career ERA of 4.14. He recorded 247 strikeouts in 248 innings. As a sophomore (2004) Meloan went 10-0 with a 4.66 ERA and he followed that up with a 10-3 campaign with a 3.70 ERA as a senior (2005) when he struck out 130.
