Women's Volleyball: Cady Mercer, Texas A&M University-Kingsville

Cady Mercer played one set in Texas A&M University-Kingsville's 3-0 loss to Incarnate Word on Tuesday. She graduated from Katy High School High School in 2009.

Mercer is a 2009 graduate of Katy High School, where she helped the volleyball team make three straight playoff appearances. Mercer was a first-team all-district honoree during her senior season (2008-09) after earning second-team all-district accolades during her sophomore (2006-07) and junior (2007-08) campaigns. Mercet helped Katy win bi-district titles in 2006 and 2007 as well as make a regional semifinal trip in 2008. Carter William Jurica went 0 for 5 in the San Jose Giants's 8-3 loss at the Modesto Nuts on Thursday. Jurica graduated from Katy High School.

Jurica is a 2007 graduate of Katy High School. He went on to play college baseball at Kansas State for three seasons (2008 to 2010) posting a career average of .333 with 20 home runs and 131 RBIs. As a junior, 2010, Jurica was named a Big XII Conference all-star left fielder after batting .363 with 13 homers and 69 RBIs. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the third round (105th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. Jurica played 62 games during 2010 with the Giants Low Single-A affiliate, Salem-Kaiser, of the Northwest League. He batted .216 with three home runs and 31 RBIs. Pro Baseball: Jared Michael Gayhart, Erie SeaWolves

Jared Michael Gayhart pitched five innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs Thursday in the Erie SeaWolves's 4-1 loss at the Altoona Curve. Gayhart graduated from Katy High School.

Gayhart is a 2005 graduate of Katy High School. He played one season (2006) of collegiate baseball at San Jacinto College before transferring to Rice. In two seasons (2007 and 2008) for the Owls Gayhart batted .322 with 10 home runs and 89 RBIs in 119 games at the plate while also going 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 10 career relief appearances on the mound. Gayhart was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round (403rd overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. He was converted to a pitcher in the Tigers' organization making 99 appearances (95 of which were relief outings) during his first three professional seasons (2008 to 2010).
