School turned down for street lights

Katy City Council members declined a request Monday to install street lighting outside West Houston Charter School at Eleventh Street and Avenue A, saying it would set an unwanted precedent in Katy.

But city leaders said they would pick up lighting usage costs if the school comes up with the $1,900 CenterPoint Energy said it would charge to install three light poles.

Check out pictures of the newly-built Katy Mills Boulevard that connects from Market Place Drive to Katy Mills Circle, the circular street known as the 'ring road' that winds around the mall. The street is expected to open to motorists this year once traffic signals are installed. A portion of Avenue D also is closed as the city begins a major bond project.
