Daily update: Feb. 8

The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County is in need of volunteer tutors to teach adult basic MS Word computer classes two mornings each week.

Scheduled classes will begin in March and will be held at the new Ridgemont Early Childhood Center located at 5353 Ridge Creek Circle, Houston.

Spanish/English tutors are needed. Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, you may apply at the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County at 12530 Emily Court, Sugar Land or call Linda Perez at 281-240-8181 for more information.

A lucky fan and guest can win tickets to hear director Spike Lee speak at the Houston Community College’s Black History Month Gala on Feb. 26.

The Spike Lee “Do the Right Thing” Trivia Contest runs through Feb. 19. Every day at 9 a.m., a special Spike Lee trivia question will be posted on the HCC Black History Month website: www.hccs.edu/blackhistory.

Submit your answer via e-mail to: blackhistory@hccs.edu. Be sure to submit your full name and mobile phone number along with your answer. On Feb. 19 one winner will be selected from all entrants who submitted correct answers during the contest period. The winner will receive two tickets – valued at $300 – to the HCC Black History Month Gala, which takes place 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 at the Hilton Americas Houston hotel in downtown Houston.

For more information on the Spike Lee “Do-The-Right-Thing” Trivia Contest, call Mike Edwards at 713-718-7101.
