Seriously, you'll have to get in line for preschool registration at CrossPoint Community Church's preschool, CrossPoint Christian School. This place is popular and if you've been around Katy for a while and have or have had preschool-age kids you probably already know that.
Starting Friday at 7 a.m. registration will begin for preschool and kindergarten classes at CrossPoint for the 2010/2011 school year. But don't wait until 7 a.m. to get to the church located at 700 S. Westgreen Blvd.
The doors will open at 5:30 a.m. and potential registrants will receive a number based on their place in line since registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This time around, though, there may be extra space for you child. The school will have additional space for children next school year thanks to the church's expansion.
There will be 118 new openings for kids ages 2 - kindergarten. The expansion is adding 10 new classrooms to the school, providing more space for students.
But, as I said earlier, there will still be a line, guaranteed. But the one thing that can't be guaranteed is when that line will begin. Last year, moms who were determined to get their kids into CrossPoint's preschool camped out at the church starting at 10:30 the night before registration! Forget Black Friday!
The reason? CrossPoint's school director Connie Robinson said she's been told by parents there are several reasons why the church's school is so popular.
"The teachers are very creative and I get a lot of good feedback about the teachers," Robinson said. "We're also very flexible and have full day and half day programs."
Classes are available on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule, Tuesday-Thursday schedule or the full five days. Half days last until noon and full days last until 2:30 with the last part of the day consisting of "Afternoon Specials" including Spanish, Music, Art, Tumbling, Science and other topics.
Robinson said parents have also been pleased with CrossPoint's balance of academic topics with social and physical activities for children. She said teachers do a good job preparing kids for kindergarten and first grade in Katy ISD.
With the current expansion of the school, Robinson said total enrollment next year, if every spot is filled, will be 374 compared to current enrollment of 258. The church's expansion project also includes a 1,200-seat worship center
and a 200-seat chapel for special occasions as well as more educational space.
So, come early on Friday and enjoy some coffee and muffins while you're waiting to register. All you need is the $125 registration fee. And if you don't get a spot? Robinson said you can add your name to a waiting list and you won't be required to pay the registration fee.
