'Operation: War Dogs' raises more than $10K for military K-9 fund
published Jul. 10, 2012
Rover Oaks Pet Resort’s one-month donation drive, Operation: War Dogs, raised more than $10,000 for the Texas Chapter of the U.S. War Dogs Association U.S. Military K-9 Fund.
The U.S. Military K-9 Fund is an organization comprised of former and current military dog handlers and other volunteers committed to promoting military service dogs through establishing permanent war dog memorials and educating the public about the service of canines to America.
Rover Oaks matched 10 percent of all money raised, helping to provide medications, food, grooming tools, bedding and other necessities. Donations of $25 received commemorative dog tags, and $100 donations received a free night of lodging at Rover Oaks.
Steve Smith, owner of Rover Oaks, was pleased in meeting the goal. “The Houston and Katy communities have been overwhelmingly supportive and generous," he said. “We think this will be an effort that continues to grow for a long time to come.”
“The first thing we plan to do with some of the funds received from Operation: War Dogs is to bring home retired military working dogs from overseas to their new adoptive families,” said Ann Morrison, co-founder of the U.S. Military K-9 Fund.
