Second Baptist members 'Rise Up' and donate shoes
published Apr. 11, 2011
Thousands of dancers from Second Baptist Church (Southern Baptists) descended on Discovery Green to "dance their shoes off" on Sunday, April 10.
Volunteers from Second Baptist Church (membership is at about 55,000 members on 5 campuses, including Houston, Katy, Kingwood, Cypress and Pearland) performed a choreographed dance to celebrate Easter and the Resurrection.
At the end of the dancing, they walked off the field leaving their new, locally purchased shoes. Those shoes were then picked up and distributed to Houston-area mission centers.
The collected shoes will then be donated and delivered to those in need, both in Houston and around the world. Estimates given today were around 3,000 pair of shoes (meaning 3,000 dancers).
