Students at Beckendorff Junior High in Katy ISD [1] will attend a special assembly Thursday hosted by former New York Giant’s linebacker Keith Davis. Davis is a motivational speaker who addresses hot button topics such as peer pressure and bullying.
The presentation will take place in the competition gym from 10 to 11 a.m. Davis will deliver a message to seventh graders at the school about making good choices, choosing friends, and doing the right thing.
Davis has spoken in more than 3,000 schools worldwide and he has presented motivational programs in 47 states and 40 countries including Australia, Brazil, England, Japan, Russia, Egypt and South Africa.
If you are interested in watching the presentation, you need to get to the campus no later than 9:45 a.m. on Thursday. You will need to be signed in through the Raptor system before going to the competition gym.
According to his Web site [2]:
Keith Davis uses his own personal story of academic struggle to demonstrate to his audience that ‘you don’t have to be great to get started, you just have to get started to be great’ and that ‘readers really do become leaders’. He uses his academic success to show students that knowledge increases their opportunities to succeed. Students are left with the lasting thought that, ‘You can have more if you don’t settle for less’
Do you believe athletes and celebrities can motivate children and help them reach their potential in and outside of the classroom? If so, how?
