KHS's Okpala has big night for Austin College
KHS graduate Ransom Okpala scored a career-high 18 points for Austin College in a 96-74 loss to the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders Friday night in Sherman, Tex.
Okpala shot 50 percent from the field, hitting four three-pointers and all four of his free throws in 32 minutes of play for the Kangaroos (2-3). He also had five rebounds.
The 5'11 freshman guard has averaged 7.5 points per game in a key reserve role this season for the 'Roos. He's shooting 35 percent from three-point range.
Okpala played for coach Patrick Okurhulik and the Katy H.S. Tigers from 2008-09. He played for the East team in the HABCA All-Star Game and earned Texas Assoc. of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Academic All-State honors. The son of Frances and Jane Okpala, he lives in the Falcon Ranch subdivision.
Austin College starts Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play, traveling to Jackson, Miss. to face Millsaps College on Fri. Dec. 3 at 8:00 p.m.
