Cannons Lacrosse Club donates equipment to Katy schools
The West Houston Cannons Lacrosse Club recently purchased lacrosse sticks for Alexander Elementary, Creech Elementary and Williams Elementary schools.
The age-appropriate sticks, known as “fiddlesticks,” will be used in the elementary schools’ physical education classes. The sticks were purchased from proceeds raised from a lacrosse tournament sponsored and organized by the Cannons in December.
Nottingham Elementary’s physical education teacher and the head coach for the eighth-grade Cannons team, Dean Garza, helped lead the project. He has been teaching lacrosse fundamentals as part of his curriculum at Nottingham over the past couple years.
The Cannons Lacrosse Club is made up of boys in grades four through eight and has recently added an elementary school girls team. The club is part of the Greater Houston Youth Lacrosse Association and competes with other schools in the Houston area.
