Suit filed over vandalized Katy home

A woman is suing after, she says, a Missouri City construction company’s mismanagement of funds caused her home in Katy to be vandalized.

Sheila Hollie filed a lawsuit on May 19 in the Harris County District Court against Missouri City resident Luke Sparks, Sparks Bros. Construction Co., Harold Sparks, Spring resident Tessie Sparks and Betty Raven, citing breach of contract, violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, breach of warranty, fraud, negligence and conspiracy.

Hollie says that after flooding had destroyed her Katy-area home in May 2009, she hired the defendants to renovate, which included replacing all doors, windows, trim, interior walls, floors and cabinets.

During the renovations, Hollie’s home was burglarized. The intruders smashed windows, broke doors, left water faucets running and broke tile floors. According to the brief, Sparks admitted that he had paid his laborers only half of what he owed them, which Hollie strongly believes provoked the looting.

Hollie claims that this, and other unfortunate events, eventually forced Sparks to hire other contractors to finish the job.

Hollie is seeking all damages to which she is entitled, attorney’s fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney Roger Jain.
