Katy Roundup: Lady Spartan harriers eyeing regional berth
The Lady Spartans scored 39 points, just like Cinco Ranch did, but the Lady Cougars won the championship on the strength of their sixth-place finisher placing one spot ahead of the Lady Spartans'. The Lady Spartans again will contend for spots at the regional and state meets again this season, but once again they'll have their work cut out trying to corral that elusive district championship. Senior quarterback Brooks Haack continued to grow by leaps and bounds, completing 14 of 20 passes for 318 yards and six touchdowns in three quarters, setting a new school record in the process. Andy Dalton, the former TCU and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, held the previous school record of five TD passes. Haack's favorite target, Jordan Thompson, also reached the record book with 217 receiving yards - to go with his three TDs - surpassing the old mark of 172 yards, which stood for 11 years. Memorial, the second-ranked tennis team in the state, defeated state-No. 6 Seven Lakes 10-6 last week in a District 19-5A showdown that cemented the Mustangs' place as the No. 1 tournament seed.
