Katy Roundup: Katy now poised to be No. 1
With Klein Collins' struggles in losses to Klein Oak and Dekaney, and the Tigers' perfect 6-0 mark, they've settled in at No. 1 - a customary spot that Joseph's a lot more comfortable with now. [...] linebacker Brandon Ebrecht, defensive tackle Javier Lopez, safety Drake Dowling and backup running back Cody Gomez have missed time. Ebrecht could miss his sixth game this week, but Joseph hopes to have him back soon, Lopez returned in a limited role last week after missing three games, and Dowling's doubtful for Mayde Creek. Gomez and RB Ricky Bickham have played well, freshman RB Rodney Anderson has come on ahead of schedule, and quarterback Brooks Haack and wide receiver Jordan Thompson have been special. Haack has 18 touchdowns to no interceptions and 1,072 yards on 60-of-96 passing, and Thompson has 38 receptions for 719 yards and nine TDs. The defense also has done an excellent job, especially considering their personnel losses to injury, limiting opponents to five points per game and never allowing more than one touchdown all year. McDermott, the Cougars' QB in 2005 and 2006, improved to 4-0 as SMU's starting quarterback.
