Katy business accused of labor violations
A tax preparer is suing a Katy-area business over claims it refused to compensate employees for overtime hours worked.
Sherry Singer filed a lawsuit on Jan. 4 in Harris County District Court against Katy-area Turlington, Reeves & Orlando, PLLC and Employers One Source Group, citing violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Singer says in September 2009, Turlington, Reeves & Orlando hired her to prepare tax returns, but refused to pay overtime to her and other employees who worked more than 40 hours a week during tax season.
Singer is seeking actual unpaid overtime compensation, damages, attorney’s fees and court costs. She is being represented in the case by Houston attorney J. Kyle Simmons.
