Your views: Say it ain't so Katy Chamber

The Katy Chamber of Commerce held their annual gala this past weekend. It was called "A Tribute to Katy". The only thing is it was held in Richmond, Texas, not Katy. How is it that an organization that lists it's number one objective as, and I quote "To promote a better understanding of the importance of stratically enhancing the business development opportunities within our community".
But hold on a minute, they held this "Tribute to Katy" outside of our community. Now, I have nothing against the city of Richmond, nor the venue at which the gala was held, but I have been to events at venues in Katy, so I know that our community has businesses that can host these type events. I have been to two weddings and a fund raiser at The Tuscany Villa and an Open House at Agave Road, both in Katy and both beautiful places. I am sure there are others. I ma not sure that either of these businesses are members of the Chamber, maybe they are not, but surely the fact that they are in our community should mean something!
The Chamber of Commerce is operated by volunteers and is a great organization, i truly believe this. However, i still can not get my hands around the reasoning why they would go out of area for such a great event, especially when it is an event that is meant to celebrate Katy, our community, people and businesses.
Times are tough right now and could be getting tougher. Let's support our community businesses and focus on making Katy what it can be. Let's be sure to let our community businesses know that we appreciate them and support them.
