Katy man, Cypress inspector sued after alleged mold infestation in Humble

A couple is suing over claims the shoddy work of a Katy inspector and a Cypress home inspection company caused a mold infestation in a Humble-area property.

Miranda Brown and Dana Brown filed a lawsuit on Tuesday, May 1 in the Harris County District Court against Chesmar Homes, Pilllar to Post, with an office in Cypress, and Katy resident Michael Race, citing negligence, breach of contract and violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The Browns say in Aug. 2007, they purchased a newly built house in Humble from Chesmar Homes after Pillar to Post home inspector Race claimed it was in good condition.

After the couple moved into their new home, Miranda became ill and her condition continued to worsen until May, 2010, when they discovered mold had invaded the home, according to the brief.

The suit alleged the defendants failed to fix the numerous problems that caused the mold infestation, which led to Miranda's illness.

The Browns are seeking attorney's fees, damages and court costs. They are being represented in the case by Katy attorney Eddie Krenek.
