Commercial landlord accused of damaging tenant's Katy-area business

A landlord is being sued after allegedly destroying a tenant's Katy-area retail clothing business.

Meagan Horn, doing business as Gaughty Girlz, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, May 16 in the Harris County District Court against Katy Mills Mall, and others, citing negligence, gross negligence, breach of contract and retaliation and constructive eviction.

Horn says the landlord of her Katy Mills Mall store, Gaughty Girlz, ruined her business by allowing a contractor to jackhammer the tile floors outside her store on July 22, 2010. According to the brief, she opened the store the next morning and found all of the store merchandise coated in construction dust.

The suit alleges when she complained about the damages and losses to her landlord, the landlord retaliated by terminating her lease and telling other Katy Mills Mall tenants that she was a "deadbeat" who could not pay her bills.
