Katy Independent School District to offer free college financial planning workshop
Katy Independent School District will offer a free workshop on college financial planning from 4-5 p.m. June 18 and again July 26, at the Education Support Complex.
The workshop is called Planning and Paying for the Transition To College or Career/Technical Schools.
This year, families in Katy paid more than $22,000 at University of Texas at Austin, more than $37,000 at Baylor University, more than $43,000 at Southern Methodist University and more than $25,000 at ITT.
The free workshop will show students how to plug into more than $10 billion dollars of grant money, how private colleges may be less expensive than state schools, how to identify forgivable loans exceeding $46,000, how to find state public schools that don't charge out of state tuition, how to improve your financial aid awards, how to Identify schools that are more generous with their aid dollars and how higher income families can qualify for need-based financial aid.
Nothing will be sold during the workshop. It is open to students and their friends and neighbors. The Education Support Complex is located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.
