Nine Katy ISD National Merit Scholars named

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced the winners of National Merit Scholarships.

There were more than 2,500 winners, nine of which were from Katy Independent School District. Those students are as follows:

Mark Jablinski from Mayde Creek High School received his scholarship from Baylor University and plans to study mechanical engineering.

Henry Wang from Taylor High School received a scholarship from the University of Alabama and plans to study engineering.

Jonathan Crookham from Cinco Ranch High School received his scholarship from W. Harold Otto and plans to study architecture.

John Haley from Seven Lakes High School received a scholarship from the University of Oklahoma and plans to study engineering.

Brian Lambert from Cinco Ranch High School received his scholarship from the University of Houston and plans to study electrical engineering.

Melissa Leroy from Seven Lakes High School received her scholarship from Texas A&M University and plans to study petroleum engineering.

Tianyi Liu from Cinco Ranch High School received a scholarship from the University of Oklahoma and plans to study petroleum engineering.

Rajneesh Nair from Seven Lakes High School received a scholarship from Baylor University and plans to study medicine.

Ariana Peruzzi from Cinco Ranch High School received her scholarship from the University of Houston and plans to study music.

Winners were selected by officials of each college from a group of finalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend the sponsoring institutions. The scholarships award between $500 and $2,000 annually.
