Christus St. Catherine Hospital designated as advanced primary stroke center
Christus St. Catherine Hospital is paving the way for Katy and West Houston residents to beat the odds when it comes to strokes.
"It is crucial for a patient to seek immediate medical attention at the first sign of a stroke. Timing, location of hospital and level of services are extremely important when diagnosing a stroke," said Glenda Self, R.N., director of emergency services at Christus St. Catherine Hospital, in a press release. "We're proud to be the most advanced stroke center in the community where patients can be diagnosed and treated close to home and near their families."
The hospital received its recognition as an advanced primary stroke center from the Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers. Certification signifies the services the hospital provides by having the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.
The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification program was developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association. It is based on the Brain Attack Coalition's recommendations for the establishment of primary stroke centers.
