Katy arts group to present plays with female themes
The Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center will hold auditions for "Kick: Plays for Women," by Jane Shepard, directed by Lisa Connolly, Katie Martin, Morgan Midkiff and Heather Villano, from 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 18.
Callbacks will be Tuesday, June 19, as required. To set up an appointment, call 281-829-2787. Auditions will be held at KVPAC, Building 1, ExhibitForce Main Theatre, 2501 S. Mason Road, No. 290, in Katy.
Four plays will be presented. "Nine" is about two women held in a life-threatening situation and the mind games they play to keep each other alive. "Commencing" is about a young woman, Kelli, who is looking forward to a blind date her friends have set her up on – only to discover it's with a very disappointed lesbian named Arlin. "Friend of the Deceased" is about an embittered widow who waits at her husband’s grave for the appearance of his mistress, and encounters a soulful teen. "The Last Nickel" is about Jamie, who has an obnoxious sister and a trio of sardonic puppets to keep her awake.
Eight parts are open. The theater seeks two female actors for each of the four plays, of varying physical types and ages. It also seeks two puppeteers for "The Last Nickel." The puppeteers can be men or women.
Auditioning actors are asked to prepare a contemporary monologue, and to bring a resume and headshot if they have one. Actors must be at least 17 years old, as the show contains mature dialogue.
Performances will be staged at 8 p.m. July 27 and July 28, and at 2 p.m. July 29.
