Charity cook-off brings home the bacon for student scholarships
Kristen Severson, overall winner of the 'When Pigs Fly' Charity Spam Cook-Off, accepts the trophy from event coordinator Ron Gall.
Katy Elks Lodge hosted a "When Pigs Fly" Spam Cook-Off June 2 to sponsor local student scholarships.
Entries were organized into four categories: art, appetizer, entrée and dessert.
In the art category, first place went to Dorris Conley, and second place to Kristen Severson.
For appetizers, first place went to Butter Barteck, Nancy Draper placed second and Donna Powell took third.
In the entrée category, first place went to Joe and Kristen Severson, while Jim Clark took second. Jim Quiggins placed third.
First place in desserts went to Tonja Poorman, second place to Sandi Boyett and Joe and Kristen Severson placed third.
On average, Katy Elks Lodge provides $10,000 in scholarships per year.
