VFW Post 9182 strikes up the Fourth
Katy VFW Post 9182's annual Fourth of July celebration and fundraiser will begin at 9:30 a.m. July 4 at the post hall, located at 6202 George Bush Drive in Katy.
According to a press release, the event will include silent and live auctions, a 50/50 raffle, a magic show presented by 13-year-old "Surprising Sebastian," lunch from Outback Steakhouse and fireworks at sunset.
The release also noted that the newly updated VFW museum, as well as the gift shop, located at post hall, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Local veterans will be on hand to guide visitors through the museum during these hours. A special exhibit honoring prisoners of war and veterans missing in action will be on display.
Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include steak medallions and chicken and sides. Tickets for lunch cost $10 for adults and $7 for children and may be purchased at the post hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Raffle tickets cost $1 each or $5 for six tickets and may also be purchased at the post hall. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary, which will conduct the raffle, will also be selling cakes and cookies at the event and doing face painting for children.
The live auction will start at 1 p.m. and last no more than two hours. Katy businesses and organizations that donated items to be auctioned include: Nelson Water Garden, Katy Rotary Club, Vitamin World, Katy Grooming, Petal Patch, Cinco Car Care, Whispering Willow Florist, Bass Pro Shops, Kelliwood Animal Hospital, Brightway Carpet Cleaning, LifeTimeFitness, Cleaning Maid Easy, Sam's Club, Golf USA, Katy Hardware, B&F Systems, Ambers Designs, Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club, Igloo and Intercontinental Hotel. Other items include autographed sports items and other citizen-donated items. VFW will accept donations dropped off at the post hall through July 3. To make special drop-off arrangements, call ahead.

Post meetings take place monthly at 7:30 p.m. Mondays after a potluck dinner.
