St. Bartholomews hosts visiting Czech Republic deacons
St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church will host a reception for seminarians visiting from the Czech Republic from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.
A Mass said in Czech will be offered at 6 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall until 9 p.m.
Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. Drinks and entertainment will be provided.
Three transitional deacons from the Olomouc Archdiocese in the Czech Republic are selected each summer to travel to Texas to expand their knowledge of the English language and experience another segment of the universal church.
For the last 14 years, the Rev. Stephen Nesrsta, pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Texas, has sponsored these visits. He’s also the chaplain of the Texas District of the National Alliance of Czech Catholics.
This year’s guests - George Brtnik, David Powiesnik and John Slavik - are studying to become priests in Moravia, an eastern Czech province.
St. Bartholomew’s is at 5356 Eleventh St., Katy.
To attend, RSVP no later than Friday, July 20.
