Houston Christian, Katy grads pitch in to help San Jose beat Stockton

Former Houston Christian High School star Ryan Lollis went 2-for-5 and former Katy High School standout Carter Jurica went 2-for-4, both collecting a pair of singles for the San Jose Giants in a 4-1 victory over the Stocton Ports in a Class-A California League game on Tuesday, July 3.

Lollis, a right fielder, is batting .300 with five home runs, 38 runs batted in and 46 runs scored over 293 at-bats this season. He's also doubled 18 times, has three triples, walked 26 times and has stolen five bases.

Lollis was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of high school in the 20th round of the 2005 amateur Draft but didn't sign, electing to attend the University of Missouri. He was later selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 37th round of the 2009 Draft.

Jurica, primarily a shortstop but also plays some second base, is batting .272 with two home runs, 24 RBI and 25 runs scored over 184 at-bats this season.

Jurica, a 2007 high school graduate, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round (105th overall) of the 2010 amateur Draft from Kansas State University. In his three seasons as a Wildcat, Jurica hit .333 with 20 HRs and 131 RBI. As a junior he was named the Big XII Conference All-Star left fielder while batting .363 with 13 HRs and 69 RBI.

Jurica was born Sept. 23, 1988, in Houston.
