Houston Memorial Mustangs release varsity football schedule

Houston Memorial High School has released theĀ  2012 varsity football schedule for the Mustangs.

Led by ninth-year head coach Gary Koch, the Memorial Mustangs look to make an even deeper run into the state playoffs after reaching the state regional quarterfinals last year.

The Mustangs kick off the season hosting Houston Stratford High School at Tully Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.

Memorial's second and third contests are on the road at Spring Westfield High School's George Stadium Friday, Sept. 7, and at Pearland High School's The Rig Friday Sept. 14. Both contests begin at 7 p.m.

After a Week 4 bye the weekend of Sept. 21, the Mustangs begin District 19 play, visiting the Katy Cinco Ranch High School Cougars at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 in Memorial's first of three trips to Rhodes Stadium.

Play in Weeks 6 and 7 have the Mustangs home against district opponents Houston Strake Jesuit High at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and Katy Morton Ranch at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12.

Memorial will alternate road and home games the final four weeks of the regular season against district opponents.

The Mustangs will visit Katy Mayde Creek High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20; host Katy Taylor High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26; and travel to Katy Seven Lakes for a game at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Finally the Mustangs look to avenge a 45-0 defeat in 2011 at the hands of Katy High School in front of a Senior Night crowd at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

Should Memorial once again qualify for the postseason, the first round of the 5A Texas playoffs begin the weekend of Friday, Nov. 16.

Memorial plays its home games at Tully Stadium, located at 935 Echo Lane, Houston.
