Pope John High School releases 2012 football schedule
Pope John XXIII High School released its varsity football schedule for the upcoming season.
Led by coach Scott Mills, the Lions went 5-6 overall and 1-6 in District TAPPS 4-II last season, failing to make the postseason.
The Lions begin the 2012 season on the road against Hitchcock on Friday, Aug. 31.
Pope John XXIII is also the visitor the following week against Brenham on Friday, Sept. 7. The Lions celebrate their home opener against St. Paul on Friday, Sept. 14, followed by two more home games against Second Baptist on Friday, Oct. 5., and Westbury Christian on Friday, Oct. 12.
Two road games follow when the Lions head out to square off against Lutheran South on Friday, Oct. 19 and Fort Bend Christian Academy on Friday, Oct. 26.
The Lions finish their season hosting Northland Christian on Friday, Nov. 2 and visiting Lutheran North on Friday, Nov. 9.
All Thursday and Friday games begin at 7 p.m., while all Saturday contests start at 6 p.m.
Should the Lions qualify for the postseason, the first round of playoffs would begin the weekend of Nov. 16.
Pope John XXIII plays its home games at the 200-seat Pope John XXIII Stadium, located at 800 West Grand Parkway, Katy.
