High school football: Morton Ranch rushes past Austin, 48-28
E.J. Achelus rushed for 270 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Katy Morton Ranch High School Mavericks to an easy 48-28 victory over the Fort Bend Austin High School Bulldogs on Thursday, Sept. 6.
Achelus ripped off a scoring runs of 44 yards with 29 seconds to go in the first quarter, and 72 yards with just under four minutes to play in the second for the Mavericks, who now are 2-0. He also added a pair of two-point conversion plays after a Deion Williams six-yard run in the second and Quandre Washington 19-yard run in the third.
Williams finished with five carries for 43 yards, while Washington chipped in with four carries for 31 yards. Fellow running back Eluah Hall-Thomas also contributed a 54-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter.
Vic Enwere had a nice game for the Bulldogs (0-2) rushing 22 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns - a 28-yard run in the second quarter and a six-yard score in the third. Deandre Williams followed Enwere's score with a 45-yard run of his own for Austin's final points with 6:53 to play in the third.
Austin will attempt to pick up its first win of the season when it hosts Richmond Foster High School at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, before resting on its open date the weekend of Sept. 21. The Bulldogs will open District 23 play when they host Fort Bend Dulles High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.
Morton Ranch will host Alief Hastings High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, and will also have a bye the weekend of Sept. 21. The Mavs then travel to Katy High School to open District 19 play at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.
