Twenty Katy runners complete Marine Corps Marathon
Twenty athletes from Katy completed the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 28 in Arlington, Va.
The runners from Katy and their finishing times were Yanni Charalambous, 49, 4:00:31; Jerry Griffin, 39, 4:29:23; Monika Czurylo, 24, 4:35:48; Samuel Weller, 31, 4:45:26; John Simpsoon Jr., 57, 4:48:14; Chris Hester, 50, 4:53:08; Jenny Griffin, 39, 4:56:22; Kim Naron, 52, 5:01:24; Morgan Gomez, 26, 5:01:58; Cathy Harris, 63, 5:07:45; Kristen Drummond, 41, 5:17:37; Marty Timpano, 65, 5:21:54; Hayward Sparks, 52, 5:26:45; Mihir Patel, 36, 5:37:07; Donnie Shelton, 52, 5:56:01; Juan Gomez, 35, 5:56:15; Robert Furman, 66, 6:19:04; Lynn Furman, 65, 6:19:05; Mary Beth Hardman, 46, 6:22:49; and Jessica Hardman, 20, 6:54:19.
According to Marine Corps Marathon organizers, a total of 23,520 runners finished the 26.2-mile race.
Augustus Maiyo, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was the men's overall winner with a time of 2:20:20, while Hirut Guanqul, of Ellicott City, Md., was the winner in the women's category with a time of 2:42:03.
