Katy athletes in action: Women's basketball

The following women's basketball players, all with Katy high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Ashleigh Nwanguma, Houston Baptist University
Position: Guard
High school: Cinco Ranch High School
This week: Sunday, Nov. 18, at University of New Mexico
About Nwanguma: Nwanguma is a freshman guard for Houston Baptist University. She is a 2012 graduate of Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, where she was MVP. The psychology major from Katy is the daughter of George and Grace Nwanguma.

Afton Lane, Spelman College
High school: Seven Lakes High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 17, at TBD
About Lane: Lane is a 2009 graduate of Seven Lakes High School. She was captain of the girls basketball team and earned academic all-district honors. Off the court Lane was an honor roll student and prom queen. Born Aug. 30, 1991 the daughter of Toni Lane and Shelly Lane, she is a business management major at Spelman College. Lane is from Houston.

Megan Palmer, Rice University
Position: Forward
High School: Cinco Ranch High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 17, at Tennessee Technological University
About Palmer: Palmer is a freshman forward for Rice University. She is a 2012 graduate of Cinco Ranch High School.

Christina Kurt, University of Dallas
High School: Faith West Academy
This week: Saturday, Nov. 17, versus East Texas Baptist University
About Kurt: Kurt is a 2011 graduate of Faith West Academy, where she starred on the basketball court. As a senior (2010-11) Kurt was first-team all-district, first-team all-state, district most valuable player, TAPPS all-star nominee and TAPPS all-star runner-up MVP while helping Faith West to a state runner-up finish. As a junior (2009-10) Kurt was first-team all-district, second-team all-state and team MVP. She was first-team all-district, honorable mention all-state and team MVP during her sophomore season (2008-09). Kurt also participated in cross country as a sophomore when she was a member of the all-state team and team MVP. She was born Sept. 9, 1990 the daughter of Paul and Karen Kurt. Kurt is a pre-law major at University of Dallas. She is from Katy.

Colby Adolph, Schreiner University
High School: Mayde Creek High School
This week: Saturday, Nov. 17, at Dallas Christian College
About Adolph: Adolph is a 2009 graduate of Mayde Creek High School. She is a senior forward on the women's basketball team at Schreiner University. Adolph was an academic all-conference selection during her junior season (2011-12) with the Mountaineers. Adolph is the daughter of Willie and Tikila Adolph. She is majoring in biochemsitry, pre-pharmacy with a minor in Spanish. Adolph is from Katy.
