Cinco, Seven Lakes golf win titles

By Jason McDaniel
Chronicle correspondent
Cinco Ranch's boys golf team claimed its fourth straight District 17-5A title in convincing fashion, pulling away on the second day of the tournament at the River Ridge Golf Club near Sealy.
The Cougars' team-total of 315 on the first day left them just four shots ahead of Katy Taylor, but they fired a team 296 on Day 2 to win by 28 strokes over Taylor and Katy, which tied for second at 639.
The Mustangs and Tigers then went to a 10-man, one-hole playoff, with Katy pulling out the win and final regional tournament berth on big birdies by Trey Cassity, Andrew Ball and John Ruth.
Cinco's team win was paced by individual boys champ Jake Leatherwood. He shot a 73-76149 to lead from start to finish, edging Seven Lakes' Trent Thompson by one stroke.
On the girls side, Seven Lakes senior Janell Lysack, who signed with the Texas A&M golf team, won the individual district championship with a 79-68147. Her win paced the Lady Spartans' team title.
They shot a team 647, finishing 19 shots ahead of Cinco Ranch.
