Katy athletes in action: College Football

The following college football players, both with Katy high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Sam Holl, Baylor University
High school: Katy High School

About Holl: Played three varsity seasons for coach Gary Joseph at Katy. He was rated No. 7 safety prospect in Texas by Dave Campbell's "Texas Football" magazine and was named to Houston's Top 100 Footballers in 2009 by VYPE magazine and Houston Chronicle. He was named second-team AP Class 5A all-state as senior in 2009 and selected 2009 All-Greater Houston Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Greater Houston by Houston Chronicle. Holl led Katy to 14-2 record, state 5A D-II runner-up finish and final No. 4 ranking as senior. He was selected 2009 District 17-5A Defensive MVP, Special Teams MVP and unanimous first-team all-district.

Aundre Dean, Texas Christian University

About Dean: Dean is a 2008 graduate of Katy High School, where he played football for coach Gary Joseph. Dean was a four-star recruit in the class of 2008 as ranked by Scout.com. He was listed as the No. 46 prospect nationally by PrepStar and ESPN, which ranked Dean as the No. 7 running back in the country. Scout.com rated Dean as the No. 3 running back in the southwest and No. 6 in the country as well as the 78th best player overall in the country. He was also a Parade All-American and PrepStar Dream Team selection. As a senior (2007-08) Dean helped Katy win the Class 5A Division II title with a 16-0 record. He rank for 220 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown run, in the title game and was named the offensive player of the game. That season he rushed for 2,491 yards and 26 touchdowns to earn all-District 18-5A honors. He was the 2007 Texas Sportswriters All-State co-offensive player of the year. As a sophomore (2006-07) he gained 2,111 yards and scored 27 touchdowns to earn first-team all-district and third-team all-state accolades. Dean was second-team all-district as a sophomore (2005-06) when he ran for 866 yards and eight scores. Dean totaled 5,488 rushing yards for his career and scored a Katy record 62 touchdowns. The son of Mike and Jennifer Dean, he is from Katy.
