Cardiff, McMeans junior high schools named to ABCD Club

Cardiff and McMeans junior high schools were both recently named to the Superintendents ABCD Club.

The honor is given to schools that excel in enriching experiences for students and improving their schools and community, according to a press release. The other recipient of the award this year was Bear Creek Elementary.

Cardiff Junior High, which is at 3900 Daflower Drive, in Katy, was nominated by the parent of a child who was diagnosed with a condition that required an immediate change to her daily life.

Her parents were concerned with how their child would handle the condition and the start of junior high. The staff at the school helped to make sure the needs of the student as she was able to receive the same education as her peers.

McMeans Junior High, at 21000 Westheimer Parkway, also in Katy, was chosen because of its efforts to implement a No Place For Hate program at the school.

The school held three events that got all of the students involved with the program. Shelly England, a parent of a former student, nominated the school.

"The parents, PTA, teachers, counselors and principals all worked very hard to accomplish this goal and make a difference with students," England stated in a release.

McMeans Junior High is the only junior high school, and one of only three schools, in Katy to receive the No Place For Hate designation. It also started a student organization that holds activities for students during the school year.
