The following athletes with local high school ties are scheduled to compete this week in the following events:

Ashleigh Nwanguma, Houston Baptist University
Position: Guard
High school: Cinco Ranch High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 15, at University of Utah
About Nwanguma: Nwanguma is a freshman guard for Houston Baptist University. She is a 2012 graduate of Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, where she was voted most valuable player. The psychology major from Katy is the daughter of George and Grace Nwanguma.

Megan Palmer, Rice University
Position: Forward
High school: Cinco Ranch High School
This week: Saturday, Dec. 15, versus Stephen F. Austin State University
About Palmer: Palmer is a freshman forward for Rice University. She is a 2012 graduate of Cinco Ranch High School, where she won the Senior Captain's Award and was active in the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. Palmer is from Katy and is the daughter of John and Patty Palmer.

Christina Kurt, University of Dallas
Position: Guard
High School: Faith West Academy
This week: Saturday, Dec. 15, versus Centenary College
About Kurt: Kurt is a 2011 graduate of Faith West Academy, where she starred on the basketball court. As a senior (2010-11) Kurt was first-team all-district, first-team all-state, district most valuable player, TAPPS all-star nominee and TAPPS all-star runner-up most valuable player while helping Faith West to a state runner-up finish. As a junior (2009-10) Kurt was first-team all-district, second-team all-state and team MVP. Kurt also participated in cross country as a sophomore where she was a member of the all-state team and team MVP. The Katy native is the daughter of Paul and Karen Kurt and is a pre-law major.
