Katy ISD to host public forum Jan. 17 on new high school name

Katy Independent School District has scheduled a public forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

According to a press release from the district, the Katy ISD School Naming Committee has announced the proposed name for High School No. 7, Katy ISD's newest campus, scheduled to open in fall 2013. The campus, located at 4400 Falcon Landing Blvd., is proposed to be named after retired educator Obra D. (O.D.) Tompkins Jr. Tompkins spent 35 of his more than 39 years in education with Katy ISD, the release noted.

The proposal to name High School No. 7 after Tompkins comes after numerous nominations from community members.

The public is invited to participate in the forum and provide input regarding the proposed name. The meeting will take place in the Katy ISD Board Room, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane.

The naming committee will then review input and provide its recommendation to the Katy ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
