Katy ISD enrollment increases
Katy Independent School District's enrollment is on the rise as the Houston-area's market grows.
"In a recent report by the Greater Houston Partnership, Houston's 12-month job growth rate tops all Texas cities. This, in turn, means that more people are moving to the area and many are choosing to make Katy their home. This trend was reflected in Katy Independent School District's 2012 Demographic Update that showed continued growth, particularly in the district's southwestern corridor. Katy Independent School District has become accustomed to growth as the district welcomed more than 20,000 new students between 2002 and 2012. Over the next 10 years, it is projected that more than 34,000 new housing units, both single-family and multi-family, will be added to the district, which could bring as many as 20,000 more students to the area," according to a school district press release.
The Katy Independent School District serves more than 6,200 students in an area that encompasses 181 square miles in East Texas. The district's boundaries stretch from Houston's energy corridor approximately 16 miles west of downtown Houston to a few miles west of the city of Katy along Interstate 10. The district has 53 schools including six four-year high schools.
Katy Independent School District is at 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy.
