Work under way on Morton Road extension

By the end of this year, you can expect to cruise down Morton Road from Fry Road west into Katy with no problems.
Harris County Precinct 3 is working on another road extension project that will create a four-lane concrete boulevard extending from the end of Morton Road now at Mason Road east to connect to Raintree Village.
Work started in March with South Coast Construction Inc. as the contractor, said Randy Schilhab, Precinct 3 engineer.
The cost of the project is a little over $4.9 million which includes the construction cost, engineering fees, material testing fees, right-of-away acquisition costs and other expenses.
County officials are planning for a January 2011 completion date of the project but Schilhab said work may be done sooner.
"We anticipate that we will be able to complete the project ahead of schedule and have it open to traffic before the end of the year," he said.
The extension of Morton Road is a long-awaited project for some north Katy-area residents as well the West I-10 Fire Department. West I-10 officials are planning to build a permanent Station 5 on property purchased near Morton Road and will pursue those plans once Morton Road is extended east.
You also may have some bulldozers and excavators spending time out by Morton Ranch Road and Katy-Fort Bend County Road in the Katy city limits. County officials are also doing road construction in this site, which is part of a project to build a four-lane concrete road on Katy-Fort Bend County Road from north of Franz to north of Morton Ranch.
Schilhab said the Morton Ranch improvements are limited to just east and west of the Katy Fort bend County Road intersection.
Building is booming in Katy!
